Migration from Exchange to Google Apps

Tuesday night we successfully migrated our school users from Microsoft Exchange to Google Apps Education Edition. By the grace of God and the hard work of two volunteers, David Armanious and Samer Salama, the migration went smoothly. We used the new IMAP migration tool that Google provides on premium accounts (educational institutions and non-profits get premium accounts for free) to move all the email over and then manually imported the contacts and calendar from Outlook for the administrative staff. Over the past two days all the staff and teachers have come in and confirmed that everything is working ok. So far we have gotten mainly positive reviews of Google Apps. I’ll try and post in depth details on the migration soon.

Hey Andrew, thanks for the post about the google apps migration. We are getting ready to pull the plug and do this ourselves. Our exchange server has become more of a frustration than anything else. We have about half our staff running macs and living in gmail these days and it seems to make sense to make the change and move our email domain to google. Any bumps and bruises you care to share about the exchange migration?

Definitely, I will try to get the whole process written up tonight detailing all the steps we needed to take.
